“It was Fast and Fun!” :: Buying and Selling with Angie VanEman of American Way Realty

In my 35 years of life I’ve given birth and purchased a home exactly two times each. So I’m by no means an expert on either front. But when it comes to these life-changing events, there’s no room for error.

It makes sense to me that the more something matters, the more important it is to have someone come alongside you who is an expert. Experience counts. Whether it’s your doctor or your Realtor – the more babies delivered, the more homes sold, the better!

That’s why when it comes to choosing a Realtor, our family chooses Angie VanEman of American Way Realty.

Angie was great to work with when we purchased our starter home. But I didn’t fully appreciate her skills until it came time to buy and sell at the same time. Luckily, what’s complicated and stressful to me is Angie’s daily routine.

Let me tell you a little bit about our most recent experience working with her..

This past summer, we decided we were ready to leave our starter home and find something with a little more space that fulfilled more of our wants and needs. So we let Angie know we were looking and gave her our wish list (3+ bedrooms, 2+ bathrooms, 2-car garage, updated kitchen, mudroom, backyard – bonus if it’s fenced in, west side of town).

She advised us to find the house we wanted first as our home would sell fast.

It took a few months of searching, which I realize isn’t long at all, but at the time it felt hopeless! My “wish list” felt more like a pipe dream. I was feeling anxious to find something before a cooped up COVID winter with a three-year-old.

Occasionally during the search, I would find myself “blinded by the pretty” as Angie put it. I’d see a home with some nice updates and the prettiness would make me want to look past the fact that it didn’t check off some of the more important items on our list, such as location.

Angie wouldn’t let us make that mistake. She repeatedly said that she didn’t just want us to find a home, she wanted us find a home we loved.

With her in our corner, I felt confident that we would ultimately make the right decision. She would always give her honest opinion or point out things we hadn’t considered. I never felt pressured for the sake of a transaction. If anything, I was in more of a hurry than she was!

“Don’t worry, we’ll find your house.” she reassured me many times.

I guess that’s what I like about working with someone who is so successful (voted Mankato’s #1 Realtor five times). You don’t build that kind of success unless you have truly happy clients who come back over and over again. I trusted her.

We did eventually find a home we loved.

In both of our searches with Angie, she took us to see as many houses as we wanted to, even when she already knew why we wouldn’t like it. She understood that we needed to see for ourselves. As she explained to us, the more properties we saw, the more confident we’d be putting in an offer when we did find “the one”.

She was right, of course. We put in a strong offer right away and it was accepted.

But we still needed to sell our house…

You don’t need to spend much time on Realtor.com to know that all photography is not equal! I loved how skillfully American Way Realty showcased our home on the realtor sites and social media. The requests for showings came pouring in immediately.

After less than a week on the market, we had accepted an offer!

Next came the home inspections and all the negotiations that go along with that. Angie held our hands through the process, giving us sound advice and helping to seal the deals on both ends.

Closing day came super quick, only about four weeks from the time offers were accepted. While we packed, Angie and her team worked to make the process seamless.

She stopped by our new address with a card and in it she said, “It was fast and fun!” I would have to agree. It was fast and fun. Thanks to Angie.

If you’re looking for a realtor who will move as fast or slow as you need to, who will tell it like it is while making you laugh, and won’t leave you with any buyers (or sellers) remorse – she’s your gal!
