A Prayer for My Teen Daughter

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. –Ephesians 1:16-17

Dear God,

Thank You for the privilege of raising this amazing young woman. She has brought me immeasurable joy in her 13 years on earth. I have loved her since the moment I found out I was pregnant.

The night she was born and the doctor placed her in my arms, I couldn’t believe this precious little creature was mine. We looked adoringly at each other. I knew her. She knew me. And yet You knew her even before she was conceived. You called her by her name.

You knew that she would come into this world and into the care of my husband and I. You knew the mistakes we would make with her. You knew the times we would fail. You knew we’d do it all wrong. And yet, it was right because it was Your plan.

My fervent hope for this child is that she aligns her life with Your purpose for her. Please, God, help her see her worth outside of the eyes of this imperfect world. Help her see her beauty apart from her outward appearance. Help her live with passion and compassion.

Give her friends who are kind and who build her up and support her in the difficult times. Give her teachers who are patient with her flaws and lovingly mold her skills. Place people in her life who help her stretch, grow, and reach.

Please keep her close to You all the days of her life. Watch over her, both when she is in my arms and when she is out in the world.

I pray she walks in faith always.

Please show Yourself to her when she is scared, insecure, hurt, depressed, hopeless, dejected, or feeling unloved. When people fail her, when I fail her, remind her that Your love never fails.

Allow her the strength to say no when needed. To look temptation in the eye and have the integrity to do the right thing. To ask for forgiveness when she does the wrong thing. To forgive herself.

I pray that she has a multi-dimensional, multi-faceted spiritual life. That she finds You in the strangest of places. That she hears Your voice above everyone else’s. That she seeks You. That she has full-blown conversations and arguments with You. That she yells and shakes her fists at You when tragedies happen and then falls down on her knees and cries out for Your infinite wisdom and unending peace.

Please show her that love, goodness, and joy can conquer any circumstance as long as she keeps You first in her life.

Dear God, please surround my daughter with Your divine light, protection, and purpose.  When she falters, when she doubts, when she falls, lead her back to You. Thank You for blessing my life with her love, laughter, empathy, and her beautiful spirit. Hold her in Your hands always.

In Your name I pray,

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. — Ephesians 4:2-3

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. — Proverbs 31:30
